Heads should roll at Solid Energy
‘Heads should roll’ in the state-owned enterprise (SOE) Solid Energy if claims made in today’s Sunday Star Times are true, Greens Co-Leader Russel Norman says.
“Essentially the paper is saying a branch of government is spying on peaceful protestors including by paying spies to infiltrate them and reading their emails,” he says.
“I visited the main protest-site mentioned, at Happy Valley on the West Coast last year and met and emailed some of the young campaigners. I demand that Solid Energy releases any information it gathered from its spies about me.”
Dr Norman says he wants answers also from State-Owned Enterprises Minister Trevor Mallard about what Solid Energy is up to.
“Have we really gone back to the days of Muldoon when the Government spied on activists such as Springbok tour protestors, Maori rights protestors and the like or is it the case, as I suspect, that Mr Mallard is blissfully unaware of Solid Energy’s activities?
“If Solid Energy is employing people to spy on peaceful and passionate young New Zealanders to the degree suggested today, then surely heads should roll in the SOE.”
