Party Pills - Common Sense Prevails

Common sense has prevailed with the Cabinet decision to ban BZP and related party pills says New Zealand First health spokesperson Barbara Stewart.

“New Zealand First has always held the view that party pills are unsafe and their use should be banned.

“The pills can cause side effects such as anxiety, panic attacks, elevated heart rates, hallucinations, headaches and vomiting and even convulsions, all of which make their long-term safe use highly suspect.

“The side effects of too much alcohol are not much better but at least they are documented.

“A review of the Misuse of Drugs Act is also sensible if it clarifies our drug laws so that we don’t have a repeat of the situation where an unsafe substance is legally available simply because it is not specifically banned under the law,” said Mrs Stewart.
