It's the company John Key keeps

Statements made by National leader John Key confirming his links with two businessmen involved in leaky buildings raise questions about the company he keeps, says Labour Cabinet Minister Pete Hodgson.

Mr Key said today he was a shareholder in the company Earl of Auckland along with Mr Leuschke and Mr Cocker. The two developers liquidated a company at the centre of a leaky buildings syndrome.

"I think this raises questions around Mr Key's judgement at the very least even if these men were not his close friends," Pete Hodgson said.

National's environment spokesman Nick Smith is on record as calling the Labour-led government's response to the leaky homes issue as "clumsy" and "heartless" yet his leader has had no problem in having business ties to these men.

"I am not attacking Mr Key's personal integrity but I am raising concerns about the type of people he's happy to do business with," Pete Hodgson said.
