Ombudsman's call shows Labour
has failed in justice
The Ombudsman's recommendation for a
Commission of Inquiry into the criminal justice sector
confirms that law and order issues are still being
mismanaged after eight years under Labour, says National's
Justice & Corrections spokesman, Simon Power.
"In the
absence of leadership from the Government on law and order
issues, the Ombudsman has been forced to suggest a
commission of inquiry 'to investigate not only the
operations of the entire criminal justice system, but to put
forward explicitly the philosophies and values which should
guide its policies and practices in the future'.
"National
sees this recommendation as signalling a lack of confidence
in Labour's track record and in its ability to lead the
sector into the future."
