New Direction Needed - Not Just New Government

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today welcomed National Party Leader John Key's speech setting out his vision for New Zealand - but said that what New Zealanders want is a new direction, not just a new Government.

"It's a good speech, but Mr Key is only promising to tweak Labour Party policy - New Zealand needs a bold new direction, not a tweaking and tinkering of Labour policy," Mr Hide said.

"While John Key's policy on a youth entitlement is a good one, it is not bold enough. We need an education policy that provides opportunity for all - not just the privileged few - and those going through the youth justice system.

"We should help every child by funding independent and integrated schools the same as State schools. We need to help all families wanting a better deal for themselves and their children," Mr Hide said.
