Green MP takes on own record in 2nd Wgtn triathlon

Green Party MP Metiria Turei is to ratchet the pace up a gear in an attempt to beat her previous personal record at a second Scorching Bay triathlon in Wellington this Sunday.

"In February I completed this triathlon in 1 hour 18mins and am hoping to knock some time off," Mrs Turei says.

"I will be wearing a New Zealand made wetsuit which should help."

Mrs Turei has previously described herself as "more of a hedgehog than a speed-hog", but has shown over summer that even hedgehogs are capable of completing triathlons with respectable finish times.

Mrs Turei has set herself a strenuous schedule of completing seven triathlons and one half marathon this summer. This is her 5th triathlon, and she has only two to go - both next weekend.

What: Metiria Turei tackles the Scorching Triathlons When: 8.15am, Sunday, 30 March 2008, Where: Scorching Bay, Wellington
