National is for and against Labour’s tax cuts

In a typical slippery move, the National Party will vote for the Labour-led government’s tax cuts and attack them at the same time, Finance Minister Michael Cullen said today.

The government has announced a $10.6 billion tax cut programme today. By the third year of the programme nearly half of all households (including those without children) will be $50 or more better off every week.

The tax cuts deliver also deliver significant boosts for superannuitants.

“John Key can’t tell people where he stands on any issue,” Dr Cullen said.

“But you would have thought he could work out whether he supports Labour’s tax cuts or opposes them.

“But you would have thought wrong. In Parliament today Mr Key railed against the government’s tax cuts, but he then turned around and put National’s votes right behind them.

“Which is it Mr Key? Are you for or against Labour’s tax cuts?”
