Who will sign the pledge?

7 August 2008

Who will sign the pledge?

"I pledge my party will not initiate or support the sale of Kiwibank."

Those are the words of a pledge Progressive leader Jim Anderton signed on the steps of Parliament today.

He is inviting all other parties in parliament to sign the pledge.

"It will be revealing to see who signs, and who won't. If you are not going to sell Kiwibank, it is pretty easy to reassure people by taking the pledge. And if you don't sign, we'll know what you really mean," Jim Anderton said.

"Kiwibank is popular, successful and growing. Its profits go back into our community.

"Forty or fifty communities around New Zealand now have banking services that were closed down by the big Australian banks before Kiwibank came along. Interest rates and fees are lower than they would be without Kiwibank keeping the others honest."
