ANZ launches Sell New Zealand Made campaign

ANZ National Bank has badly let down New Zealanders with today's announcement that they will cut staff numbers through attrition and redundancy, Green Party Employment Relations Spokesperson Sue Bradford says.

"The public can rightly feel frustrated with ANZ, who assured us just a few months ago that its dalliance with job off-shoring would have no impact on customer service, and that front line staff would not be affected.

"I imagine some will be wondering about their hitherto loyal custom given the lack of loyalty and faith ANZ National seems to be putting in its New Zealand workers.

"Given its massive billion dollar profits, ANZ National does not seem to be acting in Kiwis' interests when it says it sees less and less work for skilled and experienced staff in New Zealand while it is simultaneously creating 500 new jobs overseas.

"Banking is an important community service and customers rely on front line staff to give banking the human face and compassion local communities have earned and expect.

"ANZ's actions are like the opposite of a buy New Zealand made campaign - ANZ is racing to sell off and sell out New Zealanders."
