Key welcomes United Future's support

National Party Leader John Key has welcomed a pledge of post-election support from United Future Leader Hon Peter Dunne.

"National does anticipate that it will need support from other parties to form the next government, and it would welcome United Future's support.

"We see United Future as a natural support party for National. In fact, it is a preferred 'cab off the rank'.

"National and United Future share similar views in a number of important areas of policy. We have no doubt that a stable and forward-looking support or coalition agreement could be reached after the election.

"Mr Dunne and I have talked today and previously about the kinds of policy areas we can work on together - in the areas of infrastructure, health, and law and order.

"Mr Dunne has served New Zealand as a Minister in both National and Labour led governments, and I respect his experience and the contribution he has made thus far. I look forward to Peter serving as a Minister in the next National-led government.

"That next Government will face some serious economic challenges. National has been responding to those challenges, with a thoughtful, practical programme, that will offer security to the most vulnerable through the tough times, and put this country back on a path for growth.

"Once the New Zealand public has cast their votes, we hope to be in a position to sit down with United Future, and perhaps other parties, for further discussions."
