Seddon Bennington great ambassador for Te Papa

15 July 2009 Media Statement

Seddon Bennington great ambassador for Te Papa

Labour MPs Steve Chadwick and Grant Robertson have paid tribute to Te Papa chief executive Seddon Bennington, and expressed sorrow at his death and the death of his tramping companion Marcella Jackson.

Arts, Culture and Heritage spokesperson Steve Chadwick said the news was “very sad. Mr Bennington has had a tremendous impact on Te Papa since taking up his role in 2003.

“He was a New Zealander who brought a wealth of experience to the role from previous positions in the United States, Western Australia and Dunedin.”

Associate Arts, Culture and Heritage spokesperson and Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson described Mr Bennington as a “great ambassador for the museum.

“He was highly respected not only in his role, but in many other circles in Wellington as well.

“He took the museum out to a number of groups in the community. Te Papa and Wellington will miss him sorely.”
