Putting the ETS under the microscope

Putting the ETS under the microscope

The Government's Emissions Trading Scheme came into force on July 1. It is going to drive up costs for all New Zealanders, says Act Leader Rodney Hide.

Mr Hide will be speaking publicly about why the Government's ETS scheme is bad for New Zealand, and what can be done to stop it at meetings in Warkworth on Monday 9 August, and in Brightwater, Nelson on Tuesday 10 August.

"New Zealand is the only country in the world that will have an all gasses, all sectors ETS. It now looks like no other country will follow," says Mr Hide.

Mr Hide will be accompanied by John Boscawen in Warkworth, and will also be discussing matters within the Confidence and Supply Agreement with National, including Regulatory Reform, Three Strikes and other ACT initiatives.

The Emissions Trading Scheme will cause all prices to rise, including: Power prices up 5% and again in 2013 Petrol up 4c/litre and again in 2013 Higher costs across the board for farmers, businesses and families Windfall profits for electricity generators

…and that’s just the start.
