I’m delighted that the upcoming changes to Auckland’s governance will mean Papakura has a strong voice on the new Auckland Council.
Papakura can look forward to electing six board members who will champion the district’s interests on the new Auckland Council when it begins its work in November this year.
Our Papakura board representatives will have the chance to make decisions on local issues, activities and facilities. This is great news for the district.
The Government is committed to delivering an Auckland with strong regional governance – supported by greater community engagement and shared decision making.
I encourage all Papakura residents who would like the opportunity to help shape Auckland’s future to post their vote for their preferred candidates before October 9.

I’m pleased to say that a specialist NZ
Police team is achieving excellent progress in protecting
children from abuse by online predators.
OCEANZ – Online Child Exploitation Across New Zealand – is coordinating international operations into online paedophile networks to help identify and rescue the victims of abuse.
The team is already delivering great results – six children have been rescued and a further 25 children have been safeguarded from potential abuse.
The OCEANZ squad is also working closely with our Internal Affairs and Customs Departments to break online paedophile networks across borders.
I thank the NZ Police for their commitment to strengthening both local and international efforts to help protect our children from harm.

This
month, I would like to congratulate local man Willie Iosia.
Willie has received the National Blue Light Volunteer of the
Year Award for his generous commitment to Blue Light and the
community. Willie’s willingness to build positive
partnerships between Police and the district’s young
people make him an outstanding role model. Well done Willie
– Papakura is proud of you!

Look out for Daffodil
Day collectors in and around the district this Friday 27
August as we mark the 20th anniversary of Daffodil Day. I
encourage you all to support the Cancer Society – all
donations received are crucial to reducing the impact of
cancer in our communities. By donating you will also ensure
the best possible care for the thousands of New Zealanders
affected by cancer every year.
Hon Judith Collins
