Takapu discharges disappointing, says Chauvel
News that a potentially intentional dumping of pollutants into the Takapu stream from a stormwater outlet is disappointing, according to Labour List MP based in the Ohariu electorate and Labour spokesperson for the Environment Charles Chauvel.
"It appears that someone has decided to run the risk of flouting the law and endanger the stream and its connected ecosystem by recklessly dumping into the stream"
Greater Wellington, who monitor and investigate pollution in the local environment have already begun an investigation into the discovery of a milky white discharge.
"Greater Wellington are right to take this matter seriously and they are working hard to identify the source."
"I urge locals to assist Greater Wellington in finding the source of this pollution, but it may be time to remind local stakeholders just how important the stream is"
The stream is connected to other waterways in the
Ohariu electorate and in the Wellington
region.
