Williamson goes over the top
Land Information and Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson has gone completely over the top in making offensive and totally uncalled for slurs on New Zealand Muslims, says Labour Party Associate Ethnic Affairs spokesperson Dr Ashraf Choudhary.
Dr Choudhary said that at a recent awards ceremony in Auckland Mr Williamson made disparaging jokes about Muslims to an audience of 500 guests.
“This kind of outburst is not acceptable, particularly from a senior parliamentarian,” Dr Choudhary says.
“There are 50,000 Muslims in New Zealand who will be very stunned by these remarks and who will take serious offence at his racist comments.”
“I am aware that Mr Williamson is a jovial fellow, but goodness knows what possessed him to go over the top like this,” Dr Choudhary said.
