Renewable energy scheme good news for struggling families in Auckland
Renewable energy schemes involving the use of solar power will help to relieve the financial pressure many families are facing as the cost of living continues to rise, Labour’s Environment Spokesperson Charles Chauvel said today.
“The Auckland Council is considering a renewable energy scheme involving the installation of solar hot water systems in 250 homes and businesses.
“Water heating makes up around 30 per cent of the average household's energy use, so investments in greater energy efficiency can really help reduce on-going energy bills," Mr Chauvel said
“One of the greatest barriers people face when switching to solar water heating is the one off payment. The Auckland Council is looking at ways around that financial barrier which include looking at allowing households and businesses to defer the payment through finance.
“I encourage Councils up and down the country to implement the same renewable energy schemes, not only are they better for the environment but they help make heating homes more affordable for families.
