When Parliament resumed at 2pm Louisa Wall was sworn in as an MP to replace Darren Hughes.

Speaker Lockwood Smith said some MPs personal votes concerning an amendment to the motion on appointments to the Abortion Supervisory Committee had been incorrectly recorded.

The final vote now stood at the ayes on 31, no - 67 with one abstaining.

Civil Defence Minister John Carter advised Parliament that the national state of emergency relating to the earthquake in Christchurch would be extended.

The following papers were reported:


Report on the Botany By-Election 2011 - Enrolment and Voting Statistics from the Botany By-Election held on 5 March by the Electoral Commission; and

The final annual report of the Electricity Commission, 1 July 2010 to 31 October 2010.
