Parliament Website Under Attack: Hackers Claim Responsibility

The hackers group know as Anonymous says it has been attacking Parliament’s website in retaliation for the passing into law of the Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill.

Access to the Parliament site has been disrupted at times today, but at the time of writing was up and running

THIS IS THE MESSAGE FROM ANONYMOUS TO NEW ZEALAND.........

This is a message to the New Zealand government from anonymous. We have been watching you for a while now and we are disappointed with many of your decisions. you should know by now that we do not sit around and watch people get their internet freedoms and rights taken away. due to your new laws stating that if accused with copyright infringement you are guilty until proven innocent and must pay an initial fee of fifteen thousand dollars and six months of internet suspension, we as anonymous have decided to take action. we have shut down the new zealand parliament website at w w w dot parliament dot n z. by doing this we are protecting the citizens of New Zealand and sending a message to the government in the form of a protest. Unless the government repeals these laws. anonymous will continue to take down New Zealand’s government websites.

New Zealand. you now have our full attention and we will be watching your every move so it is in your best interest to make laws benefiting your citizens instead of treating them like criminals. This is only the beginning. Unless you make a change to your system of laws. This is your last warning new zealand. we suggest you listen to us.

The bill attempted to put in place an internet copyright enforcement system, but many people objected to it as it allows in principle for infringers to have their internet access cut off.
