When Parliament resumed at 2pm Prime Minister John Key moved a notice of motion congratulating the Breakers basketball team for winning the Australian Basketball League and it was passed on a voice vote.

Civil Defence Minister John Carter informed MPs that during the recent recess he had renewed the state of emergency that was invoked following the February earthquake in Christchurch.

Mr Carter said the state of emergency expired on April 30 and would not be renewed as the Canterbury Earthquake Restoration Authority was now in operation.

The Law Commission report 'Controlling and Regulating Drugs' was tabled as were reports from the Controller and Auditor-General on Public Entities progress in implementing recommendations and the Draft annual plan 2011/12 (including the Auditor-General's proposed work programme for 2011/12).

Select committee reports were presented on the:

Weathertight Homes Resolution Services (Financial Assistance Package) Amendment Bill (258-2) by the Local Government and Environment Committee;

Identity Information Confirmation Bill (187-2) by the Government Administration Committee;

Social Assistance (Living Alone Payments) Amendment Bill by the Social Services Committee;

2009/10 financial review of the Children's Commissioner by the Social Services Committee;

Interim report on the Report from the Controller and Auditor-General on Inquiry into the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Board by the Social Services Committee;

2009/10 financial review of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise by the Commerce Committee;
