Fact Sheet Queens Wharf – RWC 2011 Fanzone
Fact Sheet
Queens Wharf – RWC 2011 Fanzone
What is a Fanzone?
Fanzones are
officially part of RWC 2011. They have become an integral
part of large global sporting events such as the FIFA World
Cup and Olympic Games and are extremely popular with locals
and visitors alike. The benefit of Fanzones, sometimes
called live sites, is that they allow people to be part of
RWC 2011 even if they do not have a ticket to matches.
Queens Wharf is one of four official Fanzones in the
Auckland region.
Will you need a ticket to
watch a match at the Fanzone?
No. The Queens Wharf
Fanzone will be open to the public free of charge and no
ticket will be required.
Whereabouts on Queens Wharf
will the Fanzone be?
Shed 10 on the wharf will be the
heart and soul of the Fanzone for all 48 RWC 2011 matches.
However, the spaces on Queens Wharf are very flexible and
the Fanzone will expand into outdoor areas and into The
Cloud for the Tournament’s big matches.
What days
will the Fanzone be in the Cloud as well?
That is
currently being finalised, but the plan is that for
approximately 18 nights the Fanzone will extend outside
and/or into The Cloud to allow more people to watch matches
on Queens Wharf.
How many people does the Queens Wharf
Fanzone hold?
Queens Wharf has a total capacity of
approximately 15,000 people (that includes Shed 10, The
Cloud and outdoor areas). The intention is to expand the
Fanzone to include outdoor areas and The Cloud for big
matches so there will be plenty of capacity.
What days
will the Fanzone be open?
Queens Wharf, including
Shed 10, is open every day of RWC 2011 and the Fanzone will
operate on every match day. All 48 matches will be screened
live.
Is there anything else to do in the Fanzone apart
from watch Rugby?
The Fanzone is officially part of
RWC 2011 so the focus is on Rugby. However, there will be
food and beverages available, entertainment and a range of
festival activities in and around the Fanzone including a
host of entertainment and interactive activity from
worldwide partners and sponsors.
Will the Fanzone be
licensed?
Shed 10 and The Cloud will be licensed but
there will be family-friendly areas where children can enjoy
the atmosphere, the activities and the Rugby. Part of the
wider Queens Wharf offering during RWC 2011 will include
weekend and school holiday programming for
families.
