Greens Are Yellow Says Brash

Greens Are Yellow Says Brash

The Green Party's characteristic self-righteous certainty seems to have abandoned it in the face of a potentially devastating challenge from a formidable opponent, says ACT New Zealand leader Dr Don Brash.

He's referring to the Greens' refusal to debate internationally renowned climate change sceptic Viscount Monckton during his visit to New Zealand.

"As I understand it the Greens were invited to appear with Lord Monckton on TVNZ's 'Q & A' programme this Sunday morning," Dr Brash explains. "Leader Russel Norman couldn't appear because he'd be out of the country, so it was decided that Dr Kennedy Graham would represent the party, and the case for the reality of man-made climate change.

"Then the party decided that had the leader been able to appear, he wouldn't have, since that would be to dignify Lord Monckton's view that the science supporting the man-made climate change hypothesis is extremely dubious and humanity is being panicked over nothing. And since Dr Norman wouldn't, Dr Graham couldn't. In other words, having initially accepted the 'Q & A' invitation, the Greens chickened out.

"Apparently the Greens are prepared to cripple our economy and condemn us all to subsistence living with dopey measures designed to stop the planet warming, but they're not prepared to debate their reasons for doing so with a reputable opponent.

"The Greens are sometimes called 'watermelon socialists' - green on the outside, red on the inside. It seems to me on this occasion they have turned yellow," Dr Brash concludes.
