When Parliament resumed at 2pm Deputy Prime Minister Bill English moved a motion paying tribute to the SAS soldier who recently died in Afghanistan.

It was passed on a voice vote.

The House gave leave for Chris Carter to give his valedictory speech at 5.45pm today

The petitions of:

Judy Taligalu McFall-McCaffery and John McCaffery and 6686 others was presented, requesting the House urge the Government to introduce and fully fund Pacific languages literacy and English literacy development through bilingual education programmes for Pacific students;

George King and 40 others, requesting the House of Representatives change the way ACC levies are charged on diesel users so they are collected at the pump.

The Auditor-General’s report on Government planning and support for housing on Māori land was presented, as was the Report of the Ombudsman on complaints arising out of bullying at Hutt Valley High School.
