Chris Carter Officially Quits Parliament

When Parliament resumed at 2pm, Speaker Lockwood Smith advised MPs that he had received a letter from Chris Carter resigning from Parliament as of September 30.

A petition was presented on behalf of the Nurses Union and the Service and Food Workers Union asking the House note that 10,607 people have asked the Government to properly fund aged care and urged Parliament to support this.

Select committee reports were presented on the:

Video Camera Surveillance (Temporary Measures) Bill by the Justice and Electoral Committee

Sleepover Wages (Settlement) Bill by the Health Committee
Report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment on Smart electricity meters: How households and the environment can benefit
by the Commerce Committee
Interim report on the Regulatory Standards Bill by the Commerce Committee

Reports were presented on the:

Visit of the Parliamentary Delegation to Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay; and the;
Auditor General’s reports on Treasury’s management of the retail deposits guarantee scheme and Transpower’s management of risks to transmission assets.

Amongst the annual reports tabled were those of the:

Auditor General;
Government Superannuation Fund;
Commerce Commission;
State Services Commission;
Statistics New Zealand
Conservation Authority
Financial Markets Authority; and
Takeovers Board

The International Finance Agreements Amendment Bill, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Bill and Ngāti Mākino Claims Settlement Bill were introduced
