Kiwibank heading to auction block under National?

John Key has been caught out telling the truth when he let it slip that Kiwibank could be sold by National, Labour Leader Phil Goff said today.

"Now we know what they will sell next time one of our schools needs a lick of paint," Phil Goff said.

"When asked directly this morning if he was going to sell Kiwibank John Key responded by saying 'well I'm just saying that there's lots of options that you could potentially have'.

"John Key promised he would go back to voters before he tried to sell anything else. This morning's slip up shows he can't be trusted.

"Kiwibank has more than 750,000 customers and they along with every taxpayer deserve to know whether this New Zealand-owned bank is going to be flicked off to overseas interests.

"The writing is on the wall -- National will not stop at selling off the power companies and Air New Zealand. More assets will follow.

"In 2008, Bill English was caught out saying that National would eventually sell off Kiwibank. National's denials since then have not been convincing as John Key inadvertently confirmed this morning.

"Only Labour can ensure community-owned assets are kept in Kiwi hands," Phil Goff said.
