Kiwis have 16 days left to stop
asset sales
Labour Leader Phil Goff says his first act as Prime Minister will be to put a stop to the sale of state assets.
“National has been caught out quietly putting our assets on the block. The assets belong to Kiwis. They are not National’s to sell.
“John Key promised he would wait until he had a mandate from voters at the election before flogging off the power companies and Air New Zealand. He doesn’t have that mandate. In fact, the overwhelming majority of New Zealanders are against the sale.
“Yet he is arrogantly ploughing ahead by letting Australian investment bank Lazard and others prepare to put our assets on the block.
“That is dodgy and goes against his promise to voters.
“As Prime Minister, I will stop it. I’ll send this Ausssie bank packing. I’ll tell them they’re not welcome here and should take their hands off our assets. They’ve got no business selling our assets and charging us $100m for the pleasure.
“We don’t want them clipping the ticket at Kiwis’ expense.
“New Zealanders know there is just 16 days left to stop John Key selling our assets. It is a clear choice.”
