Call Cops off Trivial Teacup Tape Case, Says Peters
Rt Hon Winston Peters has called on John Key to withdraw his time-wasting and trivial complaint to the police about the so-called teacup tape, now that it has been released via the Internet.
Mr Peters says it has taken the prime minister a long time to apologise to senior citizens for his callous remarks about New Zealand First supporters dying off and he should now also withdraw his complaint to police.
“Messrs Key and Banks show themselves to be a couple of schoolboy conspirators and they are as inept at intrigue as they are in the leadership of a country that badly needs some inspired leadership.
“Going to the police about this tape was a pathetic political stunt aimed at shutting down discussion of an election blooper and Mr Key should be ashamed of himself.”
Mr Peters also says he is disgusted at the inference at the end of the tape that it was the work of a New Zealand First supporter.
“Just because young people wear ‘We Want Winston’ T-shirts to public events, it does not mean they are spies,” says Mr Peters.
“Mr Key described the event as the most famous cup of tea in the world. In truth though, what started out as ‘Dilmah’ ended up as an ‘English Dogs Breakfast’.”
