In honour of Green Party MP Mojo Mathers’ introduction to Parliament, New Zealand Sign Language interpreters will be signing from the front of the House during the Green Party’s maiden speeches on Wednesday.
Ms Mathers, who is profoundly deaf, will perform the first of seven maiden speeches from new Green Party MPs that day. Each speech will be translated into New Zealand Sign Language which will be broadcast via split screen on Parliament TV.
The new Green MPs include Eugenie Sage, a former Environment Canterbury Councillor; Jan Logie, former YWCA Executive Director; Steffan Browning, an organic farming expert; Denise Roche, former Auckland City Councillor; Holly Walker, a Rhodes Scholar and expert on inequality; Julie Anne Genter, a transport expert and urban planner; and Mojo Mathers a former Green Party Strategic Policy Advisor.
The speeches will be at the following times:

The speeches will be posted on the greens.org.nz and the texts can afterward be made available to media on request.
