Crafar Farms Decision Welcomed – Sell Them Locally Says Peters
New Zealand First has welcomed the High Court decision to order government ministers to reconsider the application from China based Shanghai Pengxin to buy the Crafar farms.
Rt Hon Winston Peters says the decision by the ministers to allow the sale of the farms was wrong because it contravened the Overseas Investment Office’s own criteria.
“The receivers should now offer the farms for sale individually so that New Zealanders can have the opportunity to buy them.
“There was no reason to sell the farms as one transaction and it was an arrangement clearly aimed at satisfying overseas interests at the expensive of Kiwi farmers.
“This should be a lesson to John Key and his global backers. The OIO and his ministers should throw out the Shanghai Pengxin application,” says Mr Peters.
