Green Party comment on MFAT restructuring
The current restructuring of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade is driven by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully’s desire to bring those from the business community into the Ministry at the expense of those already in the jobs, Green Party foreign affairs spokesperson Kennedy Graham said today.
“The problem with this approach is that the foreign affairs component of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade risks being consumed by the trade arm.
“Any cutbacks to Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade staff overseas have the potential to impact on the ability of New Zealanders travelling overseas to receive consular assistance
“The Green Party is particularly concerned that the restructure may hit those parts of the Ministry that work in providing overseas development aid.”
