Mary Going – A Legacy of Rugby, Farming And Community Spirit

Rt Hon Winston Peters wishes to pay his respects to 105 year old Mary Going who died at her home in Maromaku early this morning.

“Mrs Going played an important role in her community where she was always willing to give up her time freely.

“She also played a vital part in the running of a successful farm in Maromaku.”

Mr Peters says New Zealand rugby and its fans owe Mrs Going a big debt of thanks.

“There can be no mistake that Mrs Going’s guidance was behind her sons Sid and Ken becoming both Māori All Blacks and All Blacks, and Brian being capped as a Maori All Black as well.”

“Mrs Going was highly respected by the European community and will be sorely missed by her Iwi,” says Mr Peters.
