Solid Energy’s ex-CE Don Elder must appear before MPs

Solid Energy’s former chief executive Dr Don Elder must be allowed to appear before MPs, Labour’s SOEs spokesperson Clayton Cosgrove says.

Clayton Cosgrove has today written to Solid Energy’s new chairman Mark Ford (attached) and interim chief executive Garry Diack requesting that the former CEO appear before the Commerce Select Committee as part of the 2011/12 Financial Review Hearing of Solid Energy on Thursday 7 March.

“Solid Energy has gone from an export award-winning company bringing in millions of dollars to the taxpayer to a basket case. MPs need to hear from the key people involved. Dr Elder’s evidence is essential to understanding what happened to that failing company, who did what and who was responsible.

“Dr Elder was chief executive during the review period and, according to Tony Ryall, Don Elder is still working for Solid Energy ‘to assist with transition’.

“I hope Solid Energy and Dr Elder agree to my request,” says Clayton Cosgrove.
