Health Insurance Requirement For Parent Reunion Migrants
New Zealand First would require all parent reunion migrants entering New Zealand to take out health insurance on their arrival to ease the pressure on New Zealand’s healthcare system.
Andrew Williams’ Affordable Healthcare Bill Member’s Bill, which is currently in the ballot, would require all Parent Category migrants to have health insurance on arrival and maintain it in New Zealand for a minimum of 10 years.
Mr Williams says that the health insurance requirement is consistent with retirement visas in most other countries.
“Eligibility for health insurance, and the premium cost will not present problems because these migrants have to prove good health, reach financial thresholds, and be self-supporting for a number of years.
“The minimum health cover must include elective surgery.”
The policy was launched at the New Zealand Healthcare Summit 2013 in Auckland today.
“This health insurance requirement exempts parent migrants from Pacific countries.
“Other provisions in the Bill include abolishing Fringe Benefit Tax on employer supported health cover and a SuperGold health insurance rebate”, says Mr Williams.
