Green Party launches campaign to win asset sales referendum
The Green Party has officially launched its Keep Assets Kiwi: Vote No to Asset Sales citizens initiated referendum campaign today, with billboards going up around Auckland.
“We will work hard to win this referendum to keep our assets Kiwi,” said Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei.
“This referendum is New Zealanders best chance to put an end to John Key’s reckless asset sales programme.
“A resounding no vote will be damaging for the National Government, and reaffirm the clear mandate against asset sales.
“Despite John Key’s bravado, a decent turn out in the referendum and an overwhelming no vote is the last thing that his Government wants to finish the year with.
“The asset sales programme has become an economic farce that must be stopped.
“The plunge in the Might River Power share price shows the market values the companies less than the Government does and bodes poorly for the upcoming Meridian sale.
“Further asset sales will flood a market in which there is little appetite from mum and dad investors to buy.
“A no vote in the referendum can save Genesis from the chopping block,” said Mrs Turei.
