NZ First Welcomes Labour’s Interest In State Owned Insurance Company
New Zealand First has welcomed Labour’s support for a state owned insurance company – put forward by Rt Hon Winston Peters a fortnight ago.
Rt Hon Winston Peters says it’s good to see that the Labour Party has finally realised the folly of selling State Insurance more than twenty years ago.
Mr Peters says New Zealand’s own dependable State Insurance company was a casualty of the 1984-1990 Labour Government and every Kiwi who now pays an insurance premium is paying extra because of the short sighted stupidity of past asset sales.
“We are pleased to see Labour come to its senses and it’s interesting to note their scheme has almost the same name as ours – KiwiAssure as opposed to our KiwiSure.
“We will look closely at the plan and see how it fits in with our ideas on giving premium payers a real choice. If the insurance industry and the National Government strongly oppose it, then it obviously has significant merit.”
