Maori Television – what’s the hold up?
There appears to be some serious damage control going on in the Beehive over reports of an imminent CEO appointment at Maori Television, Labour’s Broadcasting spokesperson Kris Faafoi says.
“Despite a number of reports suggesting the Maori TV Board has already given the tick to Paora Maxwell – it appears the final sign-off has unexpectedly come to a grinding halt.
“It is my understanding that while a contract has landed on the desk of the State Services Commissioner, the announcement has been put on hold.
“The question is – why? Has the board’s decision hit a Beehive speed hump?
“Maori TV plays a unique and important role in our broadcasting sector and it is essential that not only do we get the right person for the role, but that there is transparency around how and why that person got the nod.
“I would hope the State Services Commissioner looks into both of these issues. The entire process has been decidedly murky so far,” Kris Faafoi said.
