Hard
slog by Lyttelton Port workers contributed to strong
financial growth for the company and they deserve to be
rewarded for their work as much as its chief executive, says
Labour’s Acting Leader David Parker.
“Lyttelton
Port chief executive Peter Davie is being rewarded for the
company’s strong results with an almost $200,000 pay rise,
increasing his salary by 18 per cent from $1.04 million to
$1.24 million.
“The Rail and Maritime Union’s
200 workers at the Port are reaching the end of their three
year collective contract which gave them a gradual 10 per
cent pay rise over three years; equating to 3.3 per cent a
year.
“That is a far cry from the $200,000 pay
rise Peter Davie has just received. Many New Zealanders will
think this outcome is unbalanced and unfair,” David Parker
says.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
