English Out of Touch Or Lacking in Honesty

New Zealand First is offering Finance Minister Bill English a day out to meet Kiwis who live in poverty.

“Mr English has drawn a link between poverty and the ability to build a home. This beggars belief,” says New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“Kiwis living in poverty are a million miles away from anyone who is hoping to build a home. They are struggling to get food on their table, not wondering how much they can put aside for a deposit.

“Clearly Mr English is out of touch, as his government is, with both poverty and the housing crisis. If not, then he is deliberately creating a false picture, telling middle New Zealand to trust us, everything is fine.

“In the past year Prime Minister John Key denied there was either poverty or a housing crisis.

“New Zealand First is calling for the government buy land and rapidly get a home building programme under way.

“Second, we want more investment in the provinces, where there are towns and houses waiting for new residents.

“New Zealand cannot afford to wait till the government decides to be honest about poverty and lack of housing,” says Mr Peters.
