National’s highways far less efficient

National’s new state highways have a far lower cost-benefit ratio than motorways built under the last Labour Government, making a mockery of the Government’s bluster that its road building will boost the economy, says Labour's Transport spokesperson Phil Twyford.

“New information released in the Treasury’s Briefing to the Incoming Minister shows highways consented by National had extremely poor cost benefit ratios compared to those under Labour.

“National has spent years trying to make the economic case for its road building programmes despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

“Thankfully the Treasury has made it clear. National’s roads are uneconomic and losing money,” says Phil Twyford.
