New
Zealand First backs the call by the Waitangi Tribunal for
the dissenting parties within Ngapuhi to sit down and sort
their differences out.
“The decision from the tribunal
is the right one if the parties want to see a deal between
Ngapuhi and the Crown,” says Northland-based MP Pita
Paraone.
“The tribunal recognises that there are ongoing
difficulties but the way forward is to keep
talking.
“The row has gone on for a very long time,
we’ve had an inquiry, now we have the recommendation and
it would be a backward step not to follow it,” Mr Paraone
said.
“The Crown wants to settle the Ngapuhi claim and
so too do many in Northland. We must move forward.”
