Governor-General’s
condolences following death of Saudi King
The
Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae has
extended his condolences to the Royal Family and people of
Saudi Arabia, following the death of HM King Abdullah bin
Abdulaziz Al Saud.
“In 2011, I appreciated the
opportunity to meet members of the Saudi Royal Family when I
represented New Zealand at the condolence ceremony for Crown
Prince Sultan. I know the sad news of King Abdullah’s
passing will be a great sorrow to his people.”
“Under his leadership, Saudi Arabia has forged closer
ties with New Zealand and we have welcomed an increasing
number of young people to study under the auspices of the
King Abdullah Scholarship programme,” Sir Jerry said.
“I extend our best wishes to HM King Salman bin
Abdulaziz Al Saud as he assumes the responsibilities of the
throne and as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques,” the
Governor-General said.
