Northland Region Needs More than Words

Northland Region Needs More than Words

The National Government needs to go further than just rhetoric to help the Northland region prosper.

“The Northland Opportunities Report highlights the potential of Northland, yet, this potential has certainly not been recognised by National over the many years it has had the privilege to represent the region,” says Northland-based New Zealand First MP Pita Paraone.

“There needs to be a conscious effort to engage the young people of Northland in education and employment opportunities, so they can become the skilled workforce this report says Northland needs to grow.

“If the National Government will not commit to putting in place the required investment and infrastructure to ensure the realisation of the potential recognised in the report, then unfortunately Northland and its populace will remain in the doldrums,” says Mr Paraone.

“For 40 years National has let Northland continue its poor showings on the social indices against the rest of the country. Can Northland voters expect anything more than rhetoric from National this time?

“If the people of Northland really want greater prosperity for its people, a change of political representation for the region needs to be the first step.”
