Brownlee Throws Prime Minister’s ‘Doctrine’ under an Iraqi Bus
New Zealand First wonders how long Defence
Minister Gerry Brownlee will be in that role after
describing the Prime Minister’s "it is the price of the
club" comment on Iraq as an “unfortunate statement”.
“Gerry Brownlee is like a bull in the diplomatic china shop", says the Rt Hon Winston Peters, Leader of the New Zealand First.
“He’s tried to cover up his insult to the British Foreign Secretary by farcically claiming that he’d misheard the question.
“For the benefit of Mr Brownlee, the Prime Minister said to the BBC in January: ‘Even if the contribution is small - of course it will be proportional - there has to be some contribution… It is the price of the club’.
“Mr Brownlee sums up the way this government has trifled with the public of New Zealand, trifled with our defence force personnel and trifled with Parliament.
“New Zealand First is not limp wristed but what about Boko Haram in Africa or, in our backyard, Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah or the insurgency in Southern Thailand?
“Whatever Mr Key starts he won’t be around for when it finishes,” says Mr Peters.
