Bishop welcomes improved Hutt Valley health results

National List MP based in the Hutt Valley Chris Bishop says the latest National Health results show the Hutt Valley’s frontline health services continue to improve.

The latest results for quarter two of the 2013/14 year show that:
· 90 per cent of patients in the Hutt Valley DHB were admitted, discharged or transferred from ED within six hours – up from 88 per cent in the previous quarter
· 336 more elective surgeries than planned were performed by Hutt Valley DHB in the last three months of 2014.
· 96 per cent of eight month olds have been fully immunised, up 2.7 per cent from the previous quarter, and ahead of the national target of 95 per cent.
· 85 per cent of the eligible population have had their cardiovascular risk assessed in the last five years – up 1.7 per cent from last quarter

The National Health targets are a set of national performance measures designed to improve the performance of health services across New Zealand. Three of the six health targets focus on patient access, and three focus on prevention. They were introduced under the National-led government after the 2008 election.

“It’s great to see more children in the Hutt Valley getting immunised, more people getting checks for diabetes and heart disease, and more people getting the elective surgery they need,” says Mr Bishop.

“One of our priorities this term is to deliver better public services, and health services are among the most important to New Zealand families. The latest quarterly results show we are making real improvements for patients and their families,” says Mr Bishop.
