European Parliamentary Delegation to visit NZ


European Parliamentary Delegation to visit New Zealand

A delegation from the European Parliament, representing the Delegation for Relations with Australia and New Zealand (DANZ), will visit the New Zealand Parliament from 16th to 19th March 2015 the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon David Carter has announced.

The delegation, led by Mr Michael Theurer, comprises members from Germany, Poland, Slovakia and the United Kingdom.

The delegation will begin their visit in Auckland with a visit to Auckland University and will hold meetings with Fonterra, NZ Winegrowers and the NZ-Europe Business Council.

At Parliament they will meet with the Speaker, be introduced to the House and hold meetings with three select committees. They will also meet the New Zealand European Union Parliamentary Friendship Group and members of other friendship groups with connections to Europe.

Other meetings in Wellington include Business NZ and Beef and Lamb New Zealand.

“New Zealand is a close friend of the European Parliament and offers a link to the Pacific”. Our relations with Europe are very important both politically and economically and the visit by the delegation will provide an important opportunity to further develop this relationship. The visit also serves to underpin the special historic relations with Europe as we mark the centenary of WWI” the Speaker said.
