Friendship group sends condolences to Singapore

Incoming Chair of the New Zealand-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group Hon Judith Collins sends her condolences to the people of Singapore following the passing of the nation’s first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.

“Lee Kuan Yew was the father of modern Singapore. He stood up against communism and took the country from being a recipient of international aid programmes to a provider of aid for others,” Ms Collins said.

“New Zealand and Singapore have a lot in common, including similar legal systems and a commitment to the Rule of Law.

“Singapore is a remarkable success story that had the leadership of a remarkable man who put the welfare and betterment of his people first.”
