Campbell Live a bastion of investigative journalism

Campbell Live a bastion of investigative journalism

The announcement that current affairs programme Campbell Live is under review and may be axed has sparked outrage from the New Zealand public, for good reason, says Labour’s Broadcasting spokesperson Clare Curran.

“Investigative journalism is a precious resource in today’s media environment and vital to an informed public.

“Strong watchdog journalism that vigorously pursues an agenda of informing the electorate is a core tenet of a working democracy.

“If you're in the business of news and current affairs, regardless of whether you're privately owned or not, you have a job to keep people informed and call those with power to account.

“I urge New Zealanders to sign the petitions to keep Campbell Live, and to write to the MediaWorks’ CEO and management team to stress the importance of keeping hard-hitting investigative journalism shows like Campbell Live in primetime slots.

“We must not let any voice for injustice, accountability and inequality be scrapped,” says Clare Curran.
