KFC’s Colonel Sanders Forces Woodhouse’s Hand on Zero Hours

New Zealand First is accusing Workplace Minister Michael Woodhouse of being all over the place about zero hour contracts having defended them, tinkered with them and now reportedly considering an outright ban, which has been New Zealand First’s position.

“Last November, New Zealand First called on the government to outlaw these unfair contracts but we ran into a government and a Minister in total denial,” says New Zealand First’s Labour and Industrial Relations Spokesperson Clayton Mitchell.

“In February, Steven Joyce told Parliament that the government ‘did not have plans to ban’ such agreements. That of course was before KFC’s Colonel Sanders did the right thing here and ditched these third world-like contracts.

“Of course I am talking Restaurant Brands, but it is a worry that employers are having to do the government’s job for them.

“Minister Woodhouse has shown no leadership on zero hour contracts. He has defended the indefensible with a type of contract requiring workers to report for work with no certainty of work being available.

“National imported this cruel concept from Britain and its time to end it,” Mr Mitchell said.
