ACPAC Biennial Conference

Finance and Expenditure committee members to participate in regional forum

Speaker of the House of Representatives

14 April 2015
Committee Chair David Bennett MP and Hon Clayton Cosgrove MP will join with other public accounts committee members from Australian state and federal parliaments at the Australasian Council of Public Accounts Committees’ (ACPAC) Biennial Conference taking place in Adelaide, South Australia from 15 - 17 April, 2015. The event is being hosted by the Parliament of South Australia.

The conference theme 'Inquiring Minds — Public Accountability' offers participants the opportunity to engage on issues of importance to all Public Accounts Committees in the Australasian region. Sessions will focus on accountability, public engagement, the role of parliamentarians as opposed to politicians, as well as various case studies and jurisdictional reports from the region.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon David Carter said that ACPAC is an important forum that aides professional development for Finance and Expenditure Committee members, as well as an opportunity to share ideas around best practice with like-minded colleagues.

“Public Accounts Committees play a vital role in ensuring that governments are held accountable to tax payers, and therefore they have a strong influence on the way in which parliaments are perceived by the public in terms of openness and transparency,” said Rt Hon David Carter. “The biennial ACPAC conference allows the New Zealand Parliament to engage with and learn from our close neighbors, and also to share some of our expertise with them.”
The ACPAC conference will take place 15 – 17 April 2015.
