Burger King shows zero-hour contracts not needed

The abandonment of zero-hour contracts by Burger King is further evidence good employers do not need to use them, Labour’s spokesperson on Labour Issues Iain Lees-Galloway says.

“Congratulations to the Unite Union and Burger King for settling an employment agreement that will significantly improve the position of its workers.

“No one is prepared to defend the use of zero-hour contracts.

“The Government needs to stop dancing around the issue and introduce legislation which deals with all negative aspects of these contracts not just some of them.

“Michael Woodhouse’s proposals would only result in more people going on to casual agreements and provide little more security than they get on zero-hour contracts.

“Labour is prepared to work with the Government to implement the changes to our employment law required to genuinely eradicate these nasty employment practises,” Iain Lees-Galloway says.
