Govenrment Ignoring Provincial New Zealand at Its Peril – Says Peters

“The Government appears oblivious to the dire future of New Zealand dairying whilst obstinately refusing to do anything about it,” says Rt. Hon Winston Peters Leader of New Zealand First

“Whilst the Government, certain economists and foreign owned banks talk up the economy the truth for many farmers is now very stark. Our dollar is seriously over valued and instead of the Prime Minister hand clapping it’s escalation he should have long ago done something about it.

“The next auction that Fonterra participates in, in the early hours of tomorrow morning, New Zealand time, will again demonstrate just how unsympathetic this Government is to the real wealth creators in this country, exporters and in this case, dairy farmers.

“On 1 April New Zealand First warned that the prices would plummet and further repeats that warning for the next auction tomorrow morning.

“Tomorrows’ auction will again see the dairy prices fall putting more and more dairy farmers at risk and weakening the fundamentals of New Zealand’s economy.

“Many exporters are in real trouble while some big city interests are making record profits. The sooner provincial New Zealand understands the National Party is no friend the better and tomorrow morning’s dairy auction will be just one further piece of evidence of that,” says Mr Peters.
